Cudjoe Head is a village in the north of Montserrat, in the Parish of Saint Peter, up in the hills near to Baker Hill and Fogarty.
The village of is named after a gruesome event in the island's history. In the 18th century, a slave named Cudjoe ran away from his master: he was caught, beheaded and his head was hung on a silk cotton tree here in the hills, as a lesson to any other slaves who might think of escaping their bondage. The village grew up around the tree, which still stands here.
