Croghan Mountain or Croghan Kinsella is a mountain of 1,988 feet amongst the Wicklow Mountains, on the border of County Wicklow with County Wexford.
It is found at the far south-eastern end of the Wicklow Mountains on the county border, separated from the main range on its own small massif that includes neighbouring Croghan East Top (1844 feet (which gives Croghan the profile of a "double peak"), and Slievefoore (1,358 feet) to the east. Croghan is the source of the River Bann with rises from its southern slopes.
Name
The name 'Croghan Kinsella' reflects the Irish-language name Cruachán Uí Chinnsealaigh, meaning "Little stack of the Kinsella family".[1]
The Uí Chinnsealaigh were the dominant Gaelic family in the area; and is used to differentiate it from other "Cruachan" mountains.[1][2]
