Corringham is a small town in southern Essex, which over time has come to be considered an area within the larger neighbouring town of Stanford-Le-Hope.
The parish church originated in the Anglo-Saxon period. Earlier in the Anglo-Saxon age the town received its name, from the Old English Curringa ham (or similar), meaning "Home of Curra's folk", after an otherwise unknown chieftain.
Corringham was formerly served by the Corringham Light Railway which connected the Kynoch munitions factory with the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway.
The parish church
The parish church is St Mary's. Its south wall contains examples of Saxon herringbone stonework in both the nave and the chancel.[1] There are other Saxon features inside the church too: the tower in particular is likely to be Saxon.[2]
