Data |
Cone Island is a distinctly cone-shaped island, a little island, which rises to 200 feet above sea level to the south of Cape Adriasola, the south-western point of Adelaide Island in the British Antarctic Territory.
The island was roughly charted by the Argentine Antarctic Expedition of 1952-53, and named descriptively Islote Cono, which means 'cone islet' or Roca Cono. The name was regularised to 'Cone Island' following its recharting by a Royal Navy Hydrographic Survey Unit from HMS Protector in 1963.
