The Barnett Observatory', or in full the Chesterfield Barnett Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Newbold in Derbyshire, completed in 1960 after three years' building work.
The observatory is dominated by its dome, housing a huge telescope of 18″ diameter. This is reckoned to be the 9th largest amateur telescope in the United Kingdom.
As well as the main telescope, the facility houses a lecture room with live feeds from the main telescope, and social facilities.
The telescope is motorised in order to keep the lens fixed upon a single point as the Earth turns.
In addition, the observatory has a solarscope for observing the sun, and facilities for radio astronomy.
