Information

Catesby Viaduct is a striking railway viaduct, now disused, in the very west of Northamptonshire, which once carried the Great Central Main Line over the young River Leam, on twelve elegant arches. It is about 1,100 yards north of s northern portal of the Catesby Tunnel, to the west of Upper Catesby.

The viaduct was opened in 1898. The line was closed in 1966.

Since closure, the structure of the viaduct, built solidly in brick in the height of Victorian confidnece, has suffered. The eastern side is largely intact, but its western face, beaten by the wind and the roots of trees, is crumbling.
