Bridge on the Carrowbeg River in Westport

The Carrowbeg River is a minor river in County Mayo, which nevertheless is the principal river of Westport, entering the sea here, below Westport House in Clew Bay.

The river is ten miles long,[1] rising to the south of Westport, flowing north then east into the heart of the town, where it is crossed by numerous stone bridges before it heads out to the sea.
