Bures is a village on the borders of and Essex and Suffolk. It forms a single ecclesiastical parish (Bures St Mary), and is divided into the two civil parishes of Bures Hamlet in Essex and Bures St Mary in Suffolk.
The parish church lies on the Suffolk side of the village, with the railway station on the Essex side.
There are eight bells that hang the church of St Mary the Virgin, with the largest weighing 21 cwt.[1] They were augmented from six to eight bells in 1951 by Gillett and Johnston of Croydon.[2]
Bures United is the local football team.
