Bowshank is a village in southern Midlothian, beside the Gala Water and close to the A7. It sits in a bend in the river, where a ridge of the Bowshank Hill to the west thrusts the stream away. On the opposite, eastern bank rises a steep slope atop which is found Bow Castle, the remains of a rare southern broch.
The main railway line running up the valley of the Gala Water passes by Bowshank in the ‘Bowshank Tunnel’, which suts though the ridge.
Nearby are Buckholm, Clovenfords, the Lugate Water, Torsonce and Stow.
