Bodden Town, Grand Cayman, is the former capital of the Cayman Islands and centre of the largest district in the Cayman Islands, also named Bodden Town.

The town stands on a natural harbour and a coral reef.

The settlement here was originally named South Side. This became the residence of William Bodden when he served as Chief Magistrate (or Custos) of the islands for twenty-five years from 1798 to 1823, during which time the first roads, churches and forts were built on the islands, and ships were built here too.[1] The growing village was became named after Bodden.

In the wild days of the Caribbean, Bodden Town was ravaged by pirates.

Bodden Town today

Today Bodden Town is known for the remains of its four-mile defensive wall and the cannon stationed on it.

Today it has a population of 10,341 (as measured at the 2010 census). The town is also considered the fastest growing district in the islands in terms of resident population.

The top attractions of Bodden Town include the Mission House, which shows the lifestyle of early settlers on the Cayman Islands, and the Bodden Town Guard House, both in the care of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
