Bewick (pronounced ˈbjuːɪk) is a parish in Northumberland which encompasses two hamlets, with their associated farms:
- Old Bewick
- New Bewick
The parish had a recorded population of 69 at the 2001 census. Old Bewick and New Bewick are both about ten miles north-west of Alnwick.
Old Bewick
Old Berwick (NU066214) is along a lane pressed between the meadows of the River Breamish and the hills of Bewick Moor. The parish church is here, Holy Trinity. It is some 900 years old, the current church built in 12th century and restored in 13th and 14th centuries. The apse is quite a wonder to behold. There is both Anglo-Saxon and Norman influences in evidence both inside and outside the church.
Looming over the hamlet is a hill of 761 feet crowned with a Bronze Age cairn (Blawearie Cairn), and an Iron Age hillfort. Here too is found ancient rock art exhibiting the characteristic cup and ring marks of their age.
New Bewick
New Bewick (NU068199) sits across the River Breamish from Old Bewick, on the B6346 leading of from the A697 hillfoot road down towards Alnwick.
