Allanshaugh is a tiny hamlet or ‘fermtoun’ in Midlothian, on the upper reaches of the Gala Water amongst the Moorfoot Hills. The A7 road between Edinburgh and Melrose follows the valley through Allanshaugh.
On the opposite side of the river is Fountainhall, a small village but one which dwarfs Allanshaugh.
