Acton is a small hamlet in Northumberland, about three miles south of Allendale Town.
The name 'Acton' is usually from the Old English 'ac tun', meaning for "Oak farmstead', but here it is believed to be from Accan tun, meaning "Acca's farmstead", after an otherwise unknown farmer named Acca.
