Wardley Wood

Wardley Wood is a woodland of 162 acres near Wardley in Rutland. It lies just to the east of the village, and west of Uppingham.
The wood belongs to the Forestry Commission.[1]
At the end of the 19th century, Wardley Wood was regarded as one of the best coverts in England, and in one of the keenest foxhunting shires. It was drawn every alternate Saturday during the hunting season.
The wood was bought by the Forestry Commission in 1955 and planted with Norway Spruce, Red Cedar, European Larch, Oak and Beech.
A public right of way runs through the wood, which forms part of the Rutland Round long-distance path.
