Whalsay

Whalsay is the sixth-largest of Shetland's islands, at seven and a half square miles in area, standing apart from the main group.

The name of the island is from the Old Norse for 'Whale Island' and today it is also known as "The Bonnie Isle" and for good reason.

The main settlement is Symbister, The island is fertile and fairly densely populated. Crofting takes second place to fishing amongst the local industries. (Read more)
