Skibbereen

Skibbereen is a town in County Cork; its delightful sounding meaning 'little boat harbour'. The River Ilen runs through the town and reaches the sea about seven miles away, at the seaside village of Baltimore.

The village is at the heart of the country most devastated by the Great Famine, which has its memorials here. (Read more)
