Hyndhope is a hamlet on the south bank of the Ettrick Water in Selkirkshire, two and a half miles south-west of Ettrickbridge. It sits on a narrow river-side plain at the foot a clutch of jostling hills of the Ettrick Forest. The Hyndhope Burn joins the Ettrick Water here, its little valley giving the place its name.
A road runs up from the hamlet into the hills, but soon petres out into a set of tracks leading the farms A bridge crosses the river to link the hamlet to the B7009 road, Hyndhope’s only link to the wider world: the B7009 then follows the river down to Selkirk.
