Henllys is an ancient parish in Monmouthshire, the northern part of which has become a suburb of the new town of Cwmbran. It has a population of 2,698. The name means 'ancient court' with hen 'ancient' and llys 'court'. The name may refer to the former administrative court of the lordship of Machen.[1]
The parish church, dedicated to St Peter, is located in the rural south of the parish, a mile and a half from the built-up area of Cwmbran and a full two and a quarter miles from the village hall.
