Goetre Fawr is a parish in the very heart of Monmouthshire. Situated north-east of Pontypool, it contains the villages of Little Mill and Penperlleni as well as Goytre itself.

Goytre has a canal wharf and visitor centre on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, built on the site of an old lime kiln, complete with interactive sculptures. The Llanover private estate owns the surrounding land. Goytre has a Fish and Chip shop, a pub, a convenience store and a Post Office.
