The Roughty River, upstream

The Roughty River is a small river in County Kerry which reaches the sea at Kenmare.

The river rises in the mountains in the easternmost edge of the county, and from there flows west, carving a broadening valley down to the west coast. The course of the river opens up at the sea into a long bay or sea-lough known as the Kenmare River.
