The Renfrew Bridge, hitherto called the New River Clyde bridge is a bridge under construction over the River Clyde downstream of Glasgow. It will cross the river from Renfrew on the Renfrewshire bank to Yoker on the Dunbartonshire bank to the north, replacing the Renfrew Ferry.
The new bridge has been built as part of the ongoing 'Clyde Waterfront Regeneration', in Scotland. Scheduled for completion in late 2024, it will be the first new vehicle crossing point on the Clyde since the Clyde Arc bridge was built in 2006.[1][2][3]
Construction
In 2018, Renfrewshire Council proposed a new road bridge between Renfrew and Yoker,[4][5] at the site of the Renfrew Ferry, to replace the ferry service. As the Clyde is still used for ship-building upriver of the bridge (at shipyards in Scotstoun and Govan) it has been built as a swing-bridge, to let vessels pass up and down the river.
The two main sections of the bridge, having been pre-constructed in the Netherlands, were transported by barge to the site in early 2024, to be installed over the course of that year.[6][7] The sections first swung out and met in August 2024.[8]
