Data

Bröde Island is a rounded, tussock-covered island, lying a mile and a half to the south of Cape Disappointment at te southern end of South Georgia.

The island was charted in 1775 by Cook, who included it under the name 'Green Islands' or 'Green Islets'. The South Georgia Survey, 1951-52, reported that the name Bröde (meaning 'loaf') was firmly established among whalers and sealers for the island.
