Sphagnum Valley runs south-east from east of Low Point, running from Cumberland West Bay to Echo Pass, inland of the north coast of South Georgia.

The valley was named following botanical work by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey, 1960-61, after the bog moss (Sphagnum fimbriatum), which grows in this valley. When surveyed by Nordensjöld's Swedish Antarctic Expedition in 1902, it was charted as part of a larger 'Junction Valley' between the West Bay and the East Bay, though the latter name is now restricted to the eastern valley, beyond Echo Pass.
