Petrie Ice Rises

The Petrie Ice Rises are a line of ten ice-rises, in a line from north to south, within the Wilkins Ice Shelf, attached to the west of Alexander Island in the British Antarctic Territory.

These ice-rises were seen from the air on a the British Antarctic Survey radio echo-sounding flight, 11 February 1967, and later accurately positioned from US LANDSAT imagery. They are named after David Lyall Petrie (b.1940), the British Antarctic Survey and SPRI electronic technician, c.1966-70, who was on the flight.
