The Bridge of Don looking north

Old Machar is a parish in Aberdeenshire which forms a suburb of the city of Aberdeen north of the Don. The ancient parish extends south beyond the Don incorporating large parts of the west of the city, as well as St Machar's Cathedral and Old Aberdeen, but since the civic growth of the city, the civil parish only comprises the districts north of it, namely Bridge of Don and Danestone. It borders the parishes of New Machar and Belhelvie to the north, Dyce and Newhills to the west and Aberdeen to the south.
