Ballindrait is a townland and village in County Donegal, near Lifford and in the Barony of Raphoe North.[1][2]
The Burn Dale runs through the centre of Ballindrait. The R264 regional road passes through Ballindrait village, crossing the Burn Dale on Ballindrait Bridge, which was built around 1740.[3]
The name of the village is from the Irish Baile an Droichid, meaning 'Town of the bridge'.[1]
The former Ballindrait railway station served the area from 1909 until 1960, and was on the Strabane and Letterkenny Railway line.[4]
About the village
The Presbyterian church (within the village) was built around 1810.[5]
The local Roman Catholic church, St Patrick's Church, usually known locally as Murlog Chapel, stands outside the village in Murlough townland. It was built in the 1960s to replace an earlier mid-19th century church.[6]
Also in Murlough townland is Ballindrait Windmill, built around 1874.[7]
