Freshwater Inlet is in the north-eastern reach of Jordan Cove on the south coast of Bird Island off South Georgia.

The inlet is fed by fresh-water streams, and was accordingly named 'Freshwater' biological investigations of seals in 1956 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey. A field station of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey and now the British Antarctic Survey has been maintained here since 1957, known as Bird Island Research Station.
