Bird Sound

Bird Sound is the passage separating Bird Island from South Georgia.

The passage was earlier named the 'Strait of La Roche' after Antonio de la Roché (or Antoine de la Roche. The name 'Bird Sound' though has been in local use for many years, by association with Bird Island. The name 'Bird Strait' has been used to refer to the narrowest part of the sound.
