Port Glasgow

Port Glasgow is a large, industrial port town in Renfrewshire. It was founded in the seventeenth century as a port on the River Clyde serving the city of Glasgow upstream.

The town grew from the central area around the port, where today many of Port Glasgow's historic buildings are found. From here the town expanded up the steep hills inland to open fields; an area now known as Upper Port Glasgow and where most of the town's population lives. (Read more)
