Ennis

Ennis is the county town of County Clare. It stands on the River Fergus, just north of where it enters the Shannon Estuary, between Limerick to the southeast and Galway to the north, and 12 miles from Shannon Airport.

The name 'Ennis' is from the Gaelic Inis Cluain Ramh Fhada meaning "island of the long rowing meadow". It is the gateway to the west of Clare. The 2011 census found Ennis to be the largest town in Munster after the City of Limerick. (Read more)
