Lady Hill
St Helena, Ascension
and Tristan da Cunha
Ascension Island
Summit: 1,080 feet

Lady Hill rises from the scoured, red landscape of Donkey Plain on Ascension Island, the northernmost isle of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. It is, like the landscape about it, a bare place, a rounded hill of volcanic rubble to the west of the massif of Green Mountain without tree nor grass upon it.

Nevertheless, the summit of the hill is a vantage giving fine views over the western side of Ascension, across to similar hills, such as Cross Hill and to Georgetown and RAF Ascension Island, and the all-surrounding coastline. To the east the contrasting green slopes of Green Mountain rise up, often enveloped in cloud.

The summit sports a large, weird cairn, made not just of rocks but also random discarded shoes and t-shirts: leaving them has become a tradition amongst those stationed on the island.
