Information |
Carr's Bay Gun Battery stands on the north-west coast of Montserrat, overlooking Carr's Bay, in Saint Peter Parish. It is a fort from the colonial days, now abandoned.
The fort was built in the 17th Century by the French during their brief occupation of the island in the late 1660s, and later reoccupied by British forces when the French had been relived of the island soon aferwards.
The fort houses a gun battery and magazine. Several cannons point out to sea in the direction of Redonda, a small uninhabited island belonging to Antigua and Barbuda.
The place is also an Amerindian site, of uncertain age.
