Data

Brownsman is a small island which lies amongst the outer group of the Farne Islands, in the North Sea off the coast of Northumberland, to which county they belong.

The island is uninhabited and not permanently habitable, though a lighthouse once stood here, and a lighthousekeeper lived in the cottage beside it.

Brownsman Lighthouse was built in 1800, and replaced with a new tower in 1811. It closed in 1826 when Longstone Lighthouse was established. The base of the tower remains standing, and the cottage beside it.
