The Machars at Torrs Warren, Wigtownshire

Machars The Machars is a bold, triangular peninsula of Wigtownshire, jutting south into the Irish Sea and forming a great part of the county. The name 'Machars' is from the Galloway Gaelic word Machair meaning low lying or level land. There are no high peaks in the Machars and would best be described as undulating or rolling. The North Atlantic Drift or Gulf Stream creates a mild climate and dolphins and basking sharks are frequently seen in the seas. (Read more)
