Coalisland

Coalisland is a small town in Tyrone; a place of just under five thousand souls. It stands four miles from Dungannon, close to Lough Neagh. As its name suggests, Coalisland was formerly a centre for coal mining.

The Coalisland Canal was a four and a half mile canal built from the town to carry coal to the cities. It was never a commercial success though, and closed eventually in 1954. (Read more)
