West Linton

West Linton is a village in Peeblesshire. Many residents are commuters due to the village's close location to Edinburgh which is sixteen miles to the north-east: the village owes its prosperity to the railway and its very name, as it was once simply 'Linton' but renamed by the railway company to avoid confusion with a like-named town further up the line, now East Linton.

The village's 'Whipman' festival is one of the oldest festivals in the Middle Shires. The Whipman Play Society was founded in 1803 as a friendly society for mutual support of local families. (Read more)
