Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle stands at the top of Stirling, the county town of Stirlingshire. It is one of the largest and most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Britain. The castle sits atop Castle Hill guarding what was for many centuries the lowest crossing on the River Forth.

The hill is surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs, giving it a strong defensive position from which for centuries it guarded the lowest bridge of the River Forth; the gateway to the Highland beyond. (Read more)
