Lough Ramor

Lough Ramor is a large natural lake of 1,830 acres in County Cavan, near the village of Virginia.

The ancient Vita Tripartita identifies the lough as having lain in the territory of a clan known as the Cenal Muinreamhair and the Annals of the Four Masters refer to the lake as Loch Muinreamhair, which give us the modern name 'Lough Ramor'. The lough today is a peaceful fishing lake, which has been proposed as a Natural Heritage Area. (Read more)
