Castle Loch, Wigtownshire

Castle Loch is a large, shallow, freshwater loch in Wigtownshire. It lies amongst the Southern Uplands, to the west of Mochrum Loch, nine miles west of the county town, Wigtown.[1]

The loch is a mile and a quarter long and half a mile wide,[1] and spreads over 229 acres.[2] It contains two islets.

Survey

The loch was surveyed in 1903 by James Murray[1] and later charted[3] as part of Sir John Murray's Bathymetrical Survey of Fresh-Water Lochs of Scotland 1897-1909.
