The Hercules towing the Agincourt off Pearl Rock

The Pearl Rock is a dangerous group of pinnacle rocks on the western side of the entrance to the Bay of Gibraltar.

In 1871, HMS Agincourt, flagship of the Second-in-Command of the Channel Fleet, ran aground on Pearl Rock and nearly sank: she had to toss overboard her guns and coal and be hauled off by the Hercules.

The Pearl Rock is lit by the light of the Europa Point Lighthouse.
