St James' Chapel

St James' Chapel is a mediæval chapel which stands in the village of Lindsey in Suffolk. It was built in about 1250.

The chapel is a substantial building, built of flint, brick and stone. It has a tie beam roof covered with thatch. The chapel measures 29 feet by 16 feet. Its height, from floor to roof plate, is 11 feet.[1]

The chapel today is a scheduled ancient monument.[2] and designated a Grade I listed building.[1]

History

The chapel originated as a chantry chapel for the nearby Lindsay Castle, all remains of which have now vanished apart from some low earthworks.
