Carriden is a village of West Lothian, on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, which has become an area of the town of Bo'ness. It is at the eastern edge of Bo'ness, ranged along the shore, forming with it the parish of 'Bo'ness and Carriden'.
A Roman fort stood here, and the remains of a Roman camp too have been excavated. The fort has been held to prove that the Antonine Wall ended at the Forth here, though a little to the west another fort has been uncovered at Kinneil, which is Bede's Peneltun, and where Bede records the end of the wall. The fort and camp at Carriden would have been required in any case to avoid any attempt to outflank the wall from the river.
Carriden House

The grand house of the village is Carriden House, which stands within the lines of the Roman fort. The earliest part of the house is an early 17th-century tower house, which was extended in the 17th and 19th centuries. Carriden House is protected as a category A listed building.
