Chartres River is one of the two largest rivers on West Falkland, along with the Warrah River.

The Chatres River rises in the Hornby Mountains near the east coast of West Falkland. It soon enters the low, lake-pockmarked landscape of the island’s midriff flowing west, passes under the West Falkland Road and soon afterwards enters the sea on the west coast of the island in a long, narrow channel.

This esturine channel of the river passes by the settlement at Chartres, west of which it opens into Christmas Harbour, which itself opens up into King George Bay.
