Frensham Great Pond

Frensham Great Pond is a lake within Frensham Common in south-western Surrey, south of the village of Frensham itself. A broad lake, it is a popular place for sailing, swimming and leisurely walks on the shore. There is a sandy beach and in the summer it is common to see families swimming in calm waters and playing with beach balls and bucket and spades.

The pond lies close by the Sussex border, just a hundred yards or so south. Northeastward across the common is its companion, Frensham Little Pond.

The pond was once part of the lands of the Bishop of Winchester: the Frensham ponds were created in the Middle Ages to provide fish, especially carp, for the Bishop's estate.
