Lismore

Lismore is an island of the Inner Hebrides within Argyllshire. It is fertile, low-lying island not open to the ocean but within Loch Linnhe, east of Mull.

The island's name is the Gaelic lios mòr, which means "great garden" or "great enclosure", which well reflects its fertility amidst mountainous surroundings, and the presence of what was once a sacred enclosure around the monastery founded here by Molluag in the Dark Ages, for Lismore was once a major centre of early Christianity and the seat of the Bishop of Argyll.
