Mouswald Parish Church

Mouswald is a village and parish in Dumfriesshire, seven miles south-east of Dumfries, and 10 north-west of Annan by the A75 trunk road. It is situated in Annandale, midway between the Rivers Nith and Annan, and was anciently covered with wood, as its name implies, "The Wood near the Moss".

The parish is bounded by the parishes of Lochmaben, Dalton, Rothwell, and Torthorwald, and contains the the hamlets of Old Brocklehurst and Cleughbrae. It is about five miles in length, with an average breadth of two miles, comprising an area of 8½ square miles.

The only rivers are the Lochar Water, which touches the parish on the south-west, and the Wath burn, which enters it from the north and flows along the western boundary to its confluence with the Lochar.
