Kinross is a burgh in Kinross-shire, to which it has given its name and whose county town it is. The town is attractively located on the shores of Loch Leven, and there are boat trips around the loch and to Loch Leven Castle.
Kinross is a fairly small town, with some attractive buildings. The site of the original parish church and churchyard are a little away from the town, down a small wynd overlooking Loch Leven.
The town was originally linked by railway to Perthshire, Fife and Clackmannanshire. However, one by one, these rail links were lost, leaving the town isolated to an extent. Recently, Kinross has expanded somewhat, especially since the construction of the M90 motorway, which bypasses the town.
Kinross offers many opportunities for getting out and being active, offering great opportunities for walking and cycling in the local area. A recently developed path has been developed which offers 8 miles of walking and cycling heritage trail around the shoreline of Loch Leven. It begins at RSPB Vane Farm Nature Reserve via Findatie to Kinross Pier/Kirkgate Park.
