Loch Leven, Kinross-shireLoch Leven is a freshwater loch within Kinross-shire, in the midst of the county. The loch is roughly triangular, about four miles at its longest. The county town, Kinross, stands at its western end. On an island in the loch a short way offshore stands Loch Leven Castle (which can be reached by ferry from Kinross during the summer months). The castle was the prison of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1567, though modern day visitors can expect to be permitted to leave. (Read more) |
