Talk:Newport, Isle of Wight
Title
Should this page not be Newport, Hampshire? Since when was the IoW a county? ;) Lenzar 23:57, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- You are right that Newport is in Hampshire and the isle of Wight is not a real county. It could be described as "Newport, Hampshire" in the title, but it it more likely to be referenced by the island, just as Millport, Great Cumbrae is more likely to be looked up or written about under the wee island it sits upon rather than as "Millport, Buteshire", which would be equally correct as a description. A "redirect" page Newport, Hampshire would be good.
- For both, the county appears in the infobox (as does the island, I believe) and the articles should always have the county in the first line, but there is no denying that they are on discrete islands.
- Eventually we will come to the many villages called Tarbert, and for those there is no mising the island or we would never know which is which!
