WEST MIDLANDS AA

Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire are the three counties that have been broken up administratively by the 'West Midlands' authority which serves the Birmingham area. This is a heavily populated area and so it is incredibly complicated to look for boundaries. The West Midlands AA is split up into seven districts, which are then split up into wards. Fortunately some of the districts are completely in one county, whereas some have been split.

Most of Dudley is in Staffordshire, however there are some wards to the south east that are in Worcestershire (Halesowen area), that are listed here

Wales

#3 Caernarfonshire

Most of Caernarfonshire and Merioneth are governed by Gwynedd AA. For gathering the data for these two counties I decided to use Middle-Sized Output Areas (MSOAs) instead of the usual wards. This is because the county had many very small wards due to it's size and lack of population. Only four MSOAs cover Merioneth, the rest cover Caernarfonshire; apart from in one case where one MSOA covers most of Caernarfonshire and the village of Llanfrothen (and surrounding countryside) which is actually in Merioneth. MSOAs are not named, they are just numbered, and have between 4-10 wards in them each.

  • Gwynedd 009: 6,479
  • Gwynedd 013: 6,168
  • Gwynedd 015: 5,707
  • Gwynedd 016: 6,654
  • Gwynedd 017: 7,514
  • Village of Llanfrothen (in 010): 800
  • Gwynedd AA total: 121,874
  • Merioneth parts of Gwynedd AA: 33,322
  • Caernarfonshire parts of Gwynedd AA: 88,522

Conwy County AA is split into an eastern Denbighshire, and a western Caernarfonshire. Most of Conwy however is in Denbighshire, and thus only the Caernarfonshire wards are mentioned here.

  • Conwy Ward: 4,065
  • Capelulo: 1,485
  • Penmaenmawr: 3,857
  • Caerhun: 2,007
  • Pandy: 1,822

Traditional county population: 113,206

#6 Denbighshire

The counties of Flintshire and Denbighshire are very confusing. Most of the urban north Denbighshire AA actually uses the same boundaries as the proper Flintshire boundaries! So basically most of Denbighshire AA is Flintshire, and most of Conwy is Denbighshire. It's ridiculous!

  • Denbighshire AA total: 93,734
  • Flintshire parts of Denbighshire AA total: 56,147

The boundaries are not entirely exact, but there are two parishes in the south west of the county that are in Merioneth.

  • Llandrillo: 1,122

  • Two parishes: 2,504
  • Denbighshire parts of Wrexham County AA: 132,340

One parish of Powys AA, is actually in Denbighshire. The village has always been split up into a Denbighshire north and a Montgomeryshire south.

  • Llanrhanadr-yn-Mochnant Llanuilan: 700

Conwy County AA is split into an eastern Denbighshire, and a western Caernarfonshire. Most of Conwy however is in Denbighshire, and thus only the Caernarfonshire wards are mentioned here.

Flintshire AA
